Blue Origin-Led HLS National Team's Mission to the Moon

The National Team HLS design leverages significant prior work, flight heritage, and a modular solution. Modular solutions help to enable faster progress due to the independent development and testing of each element, which permits ongoing improvements and evolution without impacting the full system.  This also provides flexibility in the use of different launch vehicles and different concepts of operations.

The Descent Element is based on Blue Origin’s Blue Moon cargo lander and BE-7 LOX/hydrogen engine, both in development for more than three years. The Ascent Element incorporates avionics, software, life support hardware, crew interfaces, and mission operations from Lockheed Martin’s human-rated, deep-space Orion vehicle that will fly on the Artemis I and II missions soon. A consistent cockpit experience and training from Orion to the AE makes the end-to-end mission safer for Artemis. The Transfer Element, a propulsive stage that starts the lander on its descent trajectory from lunar orbit, is based on Northrop Grumman's Cygnus vehicle that provides logistics resupply to the International Space Station; and Draper provides descent guidance and avionics to the National Team. It’s time to go back to the Moon - to stay.

Who’s here after SpaceX got selected for the HLS? I felt this design by blue origin played it too safe, and attempted to get the political formula right, of what usually gets approved by Congress! If they win this competition and spacex doesnt, spacex is going to be on the mars before this thing even leaves the earth. I mean cmon this thing is ridiculous, this video is just a huge marketing campaign to win this, they are literally going to leave half of the spacecraft on the moon and in orbit every time. Havent we improved anything from Apollo times? And that ladder... They wont stop until someone dies (and dont start with low gravity, Apollo astronaut almost broke breathing equipment by jumping high on the moon) . Dynetics in combination with spacex refueling should win this and we all know it. And also Spacx should be given money for research. Because ultimately they are the only ones who can populate moon with more ppl and materials for building.

Lockheed Martin could easily use its-- crew cabin (without the upper stage rocket system) for a reusable Centaur V or ACES 68 derived lunar lander. That could allow Lockheed to easily transport crews from LEO to NRHO and then refuel at NRHO for a round trip to and from the lunar surface.
Once propellant was being produced at the lunar poles, a Lunar Centaur V or Lunar ACES 68 would have more than enough fuel to travel from LEO to the lunar surface and then refuel on the Moon to travel back to LEO.

4 companies working on 3 separate vehicles that have to fit and work perfectly together. This system is so much more complex and has so much more bureaucracy than either other system.
Sure Apollo used a similar system 59 years ago, every single system and component here needs to be designed from the ground up.

None of the players here are considering what it takes to do this over and over and over again, so they design poorly. PassifloraCerulea SpaceX are very on time for a space company,, Falcon heavy was they’re most delayed product and that’s because it didn’t make sense to finish Falcon heavy while they were still upgrading Falcon 9. Starlink is moving forward at a breakneck pace, faster than anyone thought possible. Crew dragon will probably have launched 3 crewed missions by the time Starliner gets a chance to repeat their uncrewed mission. It was delayed yes, but the project was underfunded for years and they’ve still delivered way ahead of Boeing who were considered the safe bet. Elon said in 2016 that they wanted to start flight tests of their Mars rocket by 2019, the rocket changed a fair bit as they settled the design but he was bang on with his predictions for how long it would take and the pace is only accelerating. SpaceX are far more likely to cancel something altogether than to be late to deliver, and this is usually for a good reason, usually to pursue something better

Reuse for something going as far out as the Moon requires a lot of extra propellant. This is why SpaceX's Starship is *huge*. National Team seems to be thinking like "old space" (conservative but more likely to work and be done on time). SpaceX as usual is pushing the envelope, but isn't always on time with their amazing new tech. Design diversity is good, and I hope they both keep being funded.

I wish them good luck. Too bad they're keeping everyone including their own people, in the dark on what's happening. This short animation just seems to be what others have said, a modern swanky send up of the Apollo program and others.
They're losing the public relations race with everyone else involved in today's space race. Someone might want to let them know about that.

Haven’t even achieved a commercial rocket to simply go straight up and back down, let alone orbit. Yet they want to tease people with moon missions??
Lol maybe in 20 years, but no time soon.

Yo bezos you get tax breaks then try to take taxpayer money with your rocket company, that is not at all focused on lowering costs as this is a $10 billion dollar lander. Shame on you im not your piggy bank

I wish you were as good at actually producing ANYTHING for space exploration as you are at doing CGI animations and PR videos. Blue Origin is talk, talk, talk -- no action. However, I recognize the fact that your army of lobbyist seem able to buy the best government and NASA officials available for sale.
